Software at Academic Prices
Keith Bingham
If you wanted to buy Microsoft Office 2010 Professional, it would set you back £400+. This would put most people off buying it unless there was a compelling reason!
How about if you only had to pay £37.89 (incl. VAT & delivery)?
There is a web site: http://www.software4students.co.uk/Default.aspx that allows anyone attending an educational establishment to purchase fully licenced programs at a fraction of the retail price.
Are you still using Windows XP or Vista? Upgrades too costly? Fancy upgrading to Windows 7 Professional for only £38.49 instead of £220?
These are just two examples of some of the programs now available to members of Alton U3A.
We are now registered with Software4Students, and all you have to do is to register on the site as detailed below:
Go to the home page (link above), click on "register" in the top-right corner, select 'Student' from the drop-down box, & fill in your name where indicated.
In the 'Select Institution' box, just enter Alton & click on the 'find it' button whereupon you will be presented with a list of places in Alton. Click on 'Alton U3A', then continue with the registration process by entering your own email address and a password. (It’s important you remember this password of course). Once you’ve purchased a program, you can usually download it straight away, save it on your hard-drive & then burn it to a CD / DVD, or opt for the software to be sent through the post. In all instances it will be fully licenced and you will be given the licence code.
